Mark A. Borenstein received a B.A. in 1973 from the State University of New York at Buffalo, graduating magna cum laude. He received his J.D. from George Washington University earning high honors and membership in Order of the Coif in 1976. He was the Executive Editor of the George Washington Law Review. He was Law Clerk to Judge Irving Hill, U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, from 1976-77 and was then a Fellow at the Institute for Public Interest Representation at Georgetown University Law Center. Mr. Borenstein received an LL.M. degree from Georgetown University in 1978 He was an associate and officer at the Los Angeles firm Tuttle & Taylor from 1977 to 2000.
Mr. Borenstein was a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Southern California Law School in 1997, where he taught civil procedure. Since then, he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at USC, where he teaches advanced procedure to second, third and LL.M. law students. His classes typically focus on arbitration and jury trials.
He has been a Panelist at the Los Angles County Bar Training Program for New Lawyers and has lectured on employment, workplace safety, pension, disability and civil procedure subjects. Since 1997, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Western Law Center for Disability Rights at Loyola University Law School, and for several years has served as the organization's vice president. Mr. Borenstein was actively involved with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, serving as Vice Chair of its Desegregation Committee and Chair of its Budget Advisory Committee.
Mr. Borenstein is the author of Yours for the Asking: How to Use the Freedom of Information Act , Los Angeles Lawyer , 1980; Lis Pendens: A Provisional Remedy , Los Angeles Lawyer , 1983; Airline Passenger Safety: Two Studies in FAA Dalliance , Trial Magazine, 1979.
Mr. Borenstein has tried numerous cases in the federal and state trial courts and has represented clients in many courts of appeal and the California and United States Supreme Courts. His practice focuses on general business litigation, with emphasis on real estate, accountant's liability, civil rights and ERISA litigation |
